Gender Affairs Principal Secretary Zeinab Hussein has said the government’s school computer programme will bridge the gender gap in technology access.
The PS, who was addressing a technology forum last Friday, said the government was committed to improving access to knowledge will “grant women and girls a greater earning power.”
She said the computer programme for schools where Class One pupils will be exposed to e-learning has the added advantage of bridging the technology gap between men and women.
“To expose girls to technology is critical to their development,” she added. Access to technology by women has been identified as a major impediment in bridging the gender gap.
Rita Gitobu from Go Gaga Experiential said there is need for diverse organisations to speak on the technology agenda.
Intel Corporation organised the event in line with a programme dubbed “She Will Connect” which trains women in Africa on how to use the internet to better themselves. The Programme aims at improving digital literacy skills.
