Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) has threatened to eject all rebels from the various parliamentary committees they sit in.
Speaking in Msambweni, Kwale county, in an event attended by Cord leader Raila Odinga, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula said the move is a punishment for what he termed lack of loyalty to the party through which they were elected.

Wetang’ula said that most of those in defiance have defected to Jubilee “because of greed” and would therefore lose membership in committees.

Similar fate

“We are not going to entertain these hypocrites so the party is going to take action of withdrawing all of the rebels from the different House committees immediately Parliament resumes,” Wetang’ula said adding that any future defectors will suffer similar fate.

“Nobody is defecting for the benefit of the locals but they are all doing so for themselves and therefore why should they use the parliamentary committees by the party yet they are no longer in it? It Does not make sense to us,” he said.

Their warning comes after several Cord MPs from the Coast region declared support for Jubilee in the recent tour by President Uhuru Kenyatta to the area.

Speaking on the same venue, Odinga accused the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the courts of bowing to pressure from corrupt networks in closing Cargo Freight Stations (CFSs) owned by the Joho family. Odinga said the fact KRA moved to close the CFS despite a court order was a sign that justice system was not transparent.

“If a court can issue an order then KRA goes against it and cites higher powers, who are these powers that are more powerful than the court?” Odinga asked.
