Some MPs allied to United Republican Party are demanding the stepping aside of Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru. Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills), Ronald Tonui (Bomet Central) and Charles Mwangangi (Yatta), also want the CSs whose cases have been cleared by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission reinstated back to office.
Addressing the press at Parliament Buildings, the legislators said Waiguru’s continued stay in office, even after evidence of huge losses of funds at the National Youth Service, paints a bad picture on the Jubilee administration’s commitment to fighting corruption.
Mwangangi said it is high time the country’s leadership comes out hard on those named in corruption-related cases, adding that graft was denying the government a lot of revenue. “The government can easily tackle the teacher’s pay raise if it contains the money it is losing through corruption,” he said.
“Our sister Charity Ngilu (Lands), Felix Koskei (Agriculture), Chirchir (Energy) and Kazungu Kambi (Labour) are out of the Cabinet because of allegations … We are not saying Waiguru was directly involved but let her step aside,” said Keter (pictured). “Waiguru, the CS for Devolution under whose watch NYS falls is tarnishing the image of the Jubilee government,” said Tonui.
