A Nairobi court has adjourned the hearing of a case in which former Devolution Principal Secretary Peter Mangiti, former National Youth Service director Nelson Githinji and 15 others have been charged over NYS graft.
Senior principal magistrate Joyce Aluoch directed the accused persons to appear in court on January 30, next year for further directions. This is after trial magistrate Daniel Ogembo was nominated for appointment as a High Court judge. Defence lawyers led by Joseph Wagara did not object to the adjournment.
Mangiti, Githinji and businesspersons Benson Gethi and Josephine Kabura and other NYS officials are charged with conspiracy to defraud NYS.
Mangiti and Githinji are also charged with attempting to induce NYS senior deputy director-general Adan Harakhe “not to follow up the matter relating to the conspiracy” to steal money from the government. All the accused denied the charges and are out on Sh20 million bond each, with alternative cash bails of Sh3 million.
