The National Civil Society Congress (NCSC) wants corrupt politicians locked from participating in the 2017 General Election.
Yesterday, the lobby group demanded that laws be amended to outlaw participation in elections of anyone linked to corruption.
NCSC president Morris Odhiambo called on the government to conduct proper vetting of aspirants to stop thieves from vying for political positions.
“Our proposal is that there must be a vetting system that will enable Kenyans to prevent corrupt leaders from running for office in 2017. We are working on both a top-down and bottom-up system of vetting leaders that will work with agencies such as Kenya Revenue Authority,” said Odhiambo.
He added that the country is at risk of losing more money if those involved in mega-scandals such as the National Youth Service (NYS) Sh791 million loss are elected.
NCSC also lauded the country’s courts for their recent pronouncements where a number of high profile individuals accused of corruption were ordered to refund the money or be jailed.
The lobby group at the same time decried the continued destruction of Ngong forest. NCSC threatened to move to court to have cartels charged for destroying forests, in accordance with Article 70 of the Constitution.
