The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy engineer Joseph Njoroge has confirmed that the government is well on track in its plans to produce and exporting crude oil.
Foreign investors are close to completing an early oil pilot scheme project and are expected to begin early production by exporting 2,000 barrels a day by June 2017 with a goal of reaching 4,000 barrels a day as the nation seeks to tap into its newly discovered oil resources.
However as Maya Hayakawa reports, while the country remains well placed to lead the development of oil in East Africa, it still is in its infancy stage, and the journey to full scale production is a long one.
