President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered an indefinite freeze on the establishment of new universities to give room for the strengthen of existing institutions to enable them provide more technical and vocational training.
The president issued the directive after awarding charters to eight new universities at State House Nairobi.
The universities include Rongo in Migori county, the Co-operative University of Kenya in Nairobi and Taita Taveta University in Taita-Taveta county.
Garissa University College was also set to be awarded a charter however president Uhuru Kenyatta said that he will personally travel to Garissa to deliver the certification.
