Religious leaders at the Coast under the aegis of Coast Interfaith Council of Clerics (CICC) have initiated an anti-radicalisation war by launching a five-year strategic plan to promote peace and security in the region by engaging youth in various activities.
CICC chair Wilbard Lagho said their objective is to ensure peaceful co-existence across all religions in the region.
“In places such as Likoni where cases of insecurity are rife we have embarked on what we call connector projects such as water projects where youth from both Christian and Islamic faith share the resource together and feel as one family,” said Lagho on the sidelines of the launch in Mombasa.
Lamu West chair Sheikh Ibrahim Shahib said the interfaith programmes played an immense role in calming down tempers in Lamu after the Mpeketoni attack.
“Unlike in the past, today if you go to Lamu, people of different religions are living in peace,” he said.
