Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed claims that the Jubilee Party (JP) plans to endorse some candidates for various elective positions in nominations for next year’s elections.
Ruto said every eligible person was free to vie for any seat and that the party will not lock anyone out.
He said JP has put in place mechanisms to ensure nominations are free and fair.
Speaking at St Teresa’s Girls High School in Mathare, Nairobi yesterday, Ruto assured aspirants that the nominations will reflect the wishes of the people.
“There will be no direct nominations in Jubilee. It is upon the aspirants to seek votes from the people. No group of persons will be favoured,” said the Deputy President.
Free and fair
Responding to aspirants for the Nairobi governor seat who had asked the party to ensure free and fair nominations, Ruto said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) would carry out the nominations.
“I want to make it clear that the nomination exercise will be carried out by IEBC and I want to assure Kenyans that the exercise will reflect the wishes of the people,” he said.
Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru and former MP Margaret Wanjiru who have declared their interest in the seat called on Jubilee to ensure free and fair nominations to enable the party capture the seat from Cord’s Evans Kidero.
The leaders said they would do everything possible to ensure Jubilee clinches the Nairobi governor seat.
“We want to assure the party that we will support the candidate who will emerge the winner after the party’s nominations to ensure the leadership of Nairobi remains in Jubilee,” said Waweru.
“As aspirants of the Nairobi gubernatorial seat, we want to make it clear that we will support the best candidate after the nominations so that the party does not lose the seat to the Opposition,” said Sonksincta velitis el iuressit que vel iundellor ant as siminus andesti impore est fugia sum volorpo ribusam destotatur aris modi andi adi ommodi saperum consequis et optat licium utet, tempori busape liciis esequae voles vere, sequam ut labo.
