Kitui Governor Julius Malombe has accused Wiper Party officials of conspiring to rig him out of nominations so as to lock him out of Kitui’s governor race in 2017. He, however, vowed to fight to ensure the scheme does not succeed, saying he is the people’s favourite candidate.

“We will scuttle any attempts to interfere with the nominations as time is long gone when political parties handpicked candidates’’, he said while addressing a rally at Kyaango market after inspecting development projects in Voo- Kyamatu ward over the weekend.

Malombe criticised Senator David Musila’s resoluteness to remain as the party chairman even as they compete for Kitui’s top job in next year’s general election. “Why is he finding it hard to relinquish the party position and let the people of Kitui decide who they want as their next governor?” he posed.

“I will not get tired of pushing for free and fair nominations, not only for the governor’s seat but also for all the other elective posts including parliamentary, member of county assembly and woman representative seats,” said Malombe. Malombe implored party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to move with speed and give clear direction on the nominations as the party was on the verge of disintegration.

On his part, Musila has flatly declared that he will not budge from Wiper’s chairmanship saying those calling for his resignation will have to wait much longer as it will not happen. Musila and former Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu have declared bids to unseat the governor in next year’s polls.
