Nairobi court yesterday released two brothers and three government officials accused of approving construction of the six-storey building that collapsed in Huruma estate on a Sh1 million bond each pending investigations.

Milimani principal magistrate Beatrice Mosiria granted them Sh500,000 cash bail after dismissing the application by the DPP for further detention of 21 days. Samwel Kamau and Henry Muiruri (both brothers), Chrispas Ndinyo, Justus Kathenge and Seline Ogallo were also ordered to be reporting at CID headquarters once a week until investigations are complete.

While delivering her ruling the magistrate said the prosecution has failed to give compelling reasons as to why they want the suspects to be remanded for three weeks in custody. Mosiria said she agreed with the defence that it is their constitutional right to be released on bond pending the completion of investigations.
