Former Lands Cabinet secretary Charity Ngilu has cautioned Wiper leaders against entering into a deal with the ruling Jubilee, saying they risk being shortchanged. Saying “there are powerful cartels in the government”, the Narc party leader said it’s sad authorities continue to guard criminals such as land grabbers.

Her remarks come after three Wiper MPs from Ukambani—Joe Mutambu (Mwingi Central), Kisoi Munyao (Mbooni) and Richard Makenga (Kaiti)—on Tuesday declared that Wiper is on its way out of Cord coalition.

Speaking in an interview with a local TV station, Ngilu (below) said she regrets supporting Jubilee, which she said cost her senatorial ambitions in 2013. Ngilu vied for the Kitui Senate seat but lost to the incumbent David Musila of Wiper party.

“I appreciate that in 2013 I lost and the reasons are clear. I am ready to put that behind me and focus on the Kitui governorship seat,”said Ngilu. She termed “unfair” her removal as Lands CS over corruption claims.

On Cord’s calls to reconstitute the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Ngilu asserted that there was need for transparency in the polls agency. She said IEBC commissioners should hold meeting with Cord leaders to discuss their concerns.

“It would have been best to just agree to a meeting with Cord leaders in the full glare of cameras and discuss the pressing issues the Opposition has raised,” said Ngilu.
