The much anticipated return of opposition leader and former vice president of South Sudan Riek Machar to the capital Juba was brought to a halt following prolonged disagreements with the government over the number of troops traveling with the rebel leader and weapons they were allowed to carry.
According to the joint monitoring and evaluation commission Dr. Machar was expected to arrive in Juba this past Monday along with his Spla-io forces setting the stage for the formation of a unity government under President Salva Kiir. A crucial step in ending the country's civil war and restoring peace to the country.
As our reporter Shukri Wachu tells us, the former vice-president is now expected to fly to Juba from Gambella, Ethiopia next week.
