President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday said the proposed changes in the education system will upgrade it into world-class status. He relished the latest World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report for 2014-15, which ranked the quality of the Kenyan education system the best in Africa in multiple categories.
“This is a testament to our high standards, reflecting our high expectations as a people. It is not enough to be number One in Africa. We must be able to become even better educated, more competitive, more driven to have the ability to attract the world’s cutting edge industries and investments in our economy,” the president said.
To this effect, the President said, the government will announce new curriculum, after the all-inclusive steering committee selected by the ministry puts together views from various stakeholders. “We expect to present to the country a new direction in the education of our youth that will produce all-rounded students,” he said.
The President also announced that Standard One pupils will soon receive the digital devices his government promised when it was taking over three years ago.
