President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured that his administration will double the length of tarmac road by next year. The President, who was speaking when he delivered the State of the Nation address before a joint sitting of Parliament, said that the Jubilee administration is keen on opening up the country to facilitate economic growth.
Uhuru highlighted major infrastructural projects his administration has undertaken since assuming power during the address which was earlier interrupted by MPs mainly from the ODM. “Every Kenyan knows what a road means to their lives. It is the opening up of numerous possibilities.
The instant economic activity that follows is clear to all,” he said. The President said his government has currently tarmacked 3,000km, an average of 1,000km every year up from 220km yearly that the previous governments had done. “As I address you, road contractors are on the ground working night and day to complete the projects,” he said.
Some of the ongoing road projects include Merrille River to Moyale (Marsabit), Mariakani-Kaloleni-Kilifi road (Kilifi), Kehancha to Suna to Masara (Migori), Isinya to Ngong Road (Kajiado) and South C to Kikuyu town in Kiambu county.
