The Kenya Water Towers Agency (KTWA) wants decisions touching on environment to be done in an orderly manner.
At the same time, the Agency has decried failure to allow scientific processes to take effect.
KTWA is particularly concerned about the decision to create buffers in some of the water towers.
According to the Agency, the buffers should have been done on the edges to avoid human encroachment.
Chairperson Isaac Kalua said that some environmental decisions are taken to satisfy political interests.
“Some of the political decisions, are taken even without an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA), are causing confusion,” Kalua said during the launch of the first KWTA five-year strategic plan presided over by Environment Cabinet secretary Judi Wakhungu.
He added: “The political aspect caused the loss of more than 2,500 hectares last year to arson. Dams are being created in natural forests without consultation. What is the need of the law and the EIA then?” he asked.
Kalua is concerned that water towers continue to face serious environmental degradation, which has not only compromised their ability to provide ecological services but also their resilience against climate change.
