A taxi-man in Nairobi’s Eastleigh estate, David Njoroge, got a shock of his life on Christmas eve when he made a wrong phone call and ended up connecting to a man who had fleeced him of Sh10,000 five years earlier.
Njoroge had paid a man who allegedly posed as a mechanic at a petrol station in Eastleigh to procure spare parts but after receiving the cash, vanished! Efforts to track down the “mechanic” bore no fruits with employees of the petrol station dimming Njoroge’s hopes since nobody knew the guy.
However, the con had his day with fate after Njoroge miscalled and got him on the other end of the line last month, as he was returning a call to a man who had called him earlier seeking taxi services.
Hell broke loose when the con man met Njoroge face to face. The taxi driver upon recognising him started shouting “thief” and before the man would flee, security guards manning a nearby ATM pinned him down. He surely had his day with fate!
