K24 Television today unfurls its new state-of-the-art studios to usher in Kenya’s newest phase in digital television broadcasting, with pioneering features bound to propel the station to the highest heights.
The new studio technology blended into one-of-a-kind graphics, will breathe new life into the local television industry and a milestone evolution of the station that pioneered as a 24-hour channel eight years ago.
Mediamax CEO Ian Fernandes describes this evening’s K24 roll-out as: “A gear needed to steer the media group to new levels in the local media industry.
This is to say, the relaunch is an important lever in the long-awaited take-off.” Fernandes said the relaunch is in line with radical changes pioneered by Mediamax, which also owns the People Daily, Kenya’s first free national newspaper.
His words were echoed by K24 News Editor, Boniface Mutakha, who described the new studio as “the missing link that K24 had been waiting for to take-off as one of the country’s major television viewers’ destinations.
Mr Mutakha said: “What we have been waiting for is a studio of this calibre, now we have it. It gives the team a lot of dynamism in the way we design and present our various programmes.” He said it would give viewers the freshness they have long desired.
“We are positioned well to compete and give news production that much-desired edge to claim our rightful position in the market,” he said.
Kiswahili news anchor and Managing Editor in charge of Broadcasting, Franklin Wambugu, described the new product as “aesthetic and interactive”.
He added: “It’s bigger, can accommodate more guests; the touch screen, news screen, make it even more attractive and, generally, the facilities make it a better environment.” Isabella Kituri, the eloquent Kiswahili anchor said: “It will give us an edge over the competition.
No studios of this calibre have been seen before in Kenya. Watch out!” Fernandes said the new studios, on two top floors of the DSM Place, took nearly six months to put together and equip with the latest digital technology available.
The new studio has augmented graphics, which will make it easy to present statistics, said Mr Fernandes. The new-look K24 will blend new and veteran faces on its screen, with an array of attractive programmes bound to make it a must-watch for all Kenyans.
