Kisumu County has embarked on improving infrastructure in all public schools and the strengthening of the Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE).

Last week, Governor Jack Ranguma presided over ground- breaking ceremonies for re-construction of Thim Bonde Primary School in Kisumu North and Rota Primary School in South West, two of the five dilapidated schools the County government is reconstructing into model learning centres under the French Development Bank (AFD)-funded Kisumu Urban Project (KUP).

Similar ceremonies were held at Angira and Got Nyabondo primary schools in Kajulu Ward and Rweya Primary in Kolwa East Ward, which are being reconstructed under the same project.

Ranguma said renovation of the schools will cost Sh411 million based on “innovative master plans” that provide general guidelines of design standards expected to result in “visionary and sustainable school environments”.

He said renovation and construction of extra classes will create conducive learning environments to pupils, boosting their academic performance.

“My government had earlier deployed over 80 ECD teachers to assist the young children being enrolled in the centres,” he said. Ranguma asked teachers to work harder and sent best wishes to all the candidates sitting national examinations.
