Denmark has pledged Sh15 billion to help Kenya fight radicalisation and violent extremism. Royal Danish Ambassador to Kenya Mette Knudsen said the funds will be channelled through civil society groups and government agencies to implement anti-radicalisation projects.

Speaking during a meeting with civil society groups on peace and security initiatives in Mombasa, the ambassador said the involvement of civil society was critical in championing development initiatives and as such the money donated will be used in creating more job opportunities, employment through projects for the youths.

“To counter radicalisation among the youth, the first step is to address issues that distances them from the society and to integrate them back to the society by keeping them busy,” said Knudsen.

She said the government should offer good governance and law enforcers carry out their duty of fighting the vice in a civil manner. “We believe the government will win over this vice through support from other States. However, in implementing its policies, it has to show good governance to gain support and confidence of other States," she said.

She lauded the government’s efforts in addressing security challenges in the wake of violent extremism. “This is an opportunity to take stock of key achievements that my government has had working with civil society and government agencies in restoring peace and security in Kenya.
