Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony has sacked nine law enforcement officers after they allegedly threw spikes on a moving matatu, causing an accident that claimed the lives of two people.
He said yesterday the County Enforcement unit that comprised nine officers, who have been working with revenue clerks, has also been disbanded.
The accident occurred on Friday last week when some law enforcement officers reportedly tried to stop a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) and when the driver defied the order, the officers threw spikes on the moving vehicle puncturing its tyre, forcing the driver to lose control of the vehicle that overturned, killing the two and injuring 10 others.
“The Enforcement unit and the county staff who were directly involved in the tragic accident are hereby sacked and others suspended with immediate effect.
Further investigations are ongoing regarding those who were directly involved and action will be taken on those found culpable,” said Chepkwony who was addressing journalists upon returning from a US investment conference.
The governor said hard questions must be asked saying all those who were in one way or another played a role in the tragic occurrence will face the full force of the law. He said loss of life under any circumstances is not something to be taken lightly.
