At least four witnesses have recorded statements with police in relation to a quack gynaecologist accused of sexually abusing women in Githurai, Nairobi.
But police are yet to trace Mugo Wairimu despite his social media pages having remained active, Police Service spokesperson Charles Owino revealed yesterday.
Owino said it was not difficult to trace him although they had not found him, yet. However, the investigating team said they will arrest him at the “right time”.
“We will get him at the right time. Right now we are compiling evidence before we go for his statements, then forward the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for action,” said Head of Serious Crime Unit John Kariuki.
He appealed for more witnesses and victims to come forward and record statements, adding that their protection was assured. Investigations, he said, are likely to be completed by Monday.
“In four or five days we will make an announcement. But we need more witnesses and victims to come out,” he said. Kariuki, who did not reveal the nature of evidence gathered said a team of officials from the Kenya Medical and Dentist Practitioners Board and that of nurses had joined the probe.
The team visited the clinics in Githurai and Zimmerman as part of their probe into the allegations. James Mugo Ndichu alias Mugo wa Wairimu is accused of illegally operating clinics in Githurai 44 and Zimmerman where he allegedly sedated and raped some of his patients.
The team from DCI took over the file from their Kasarani counterparts as they started to collect evidence on the allegations. The DPP had ordered police to investigate the saga and forward the file to his office.
