Luhya Elders’ Forum has asked the community to stay away from a meeting called by Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) secretary general Francis Atwoli to reportedly declare the community’s presidential flag-bearer.
The elders, led by vice chairman Burudi Nabwera, said Atwoli had no mandate to choose a leader for the community. “Leaders are chosen by people but not one particular person,’’ said Nabwera.
Speaking in Bungoma town, Nabwera said Atwoli’s initiative will divide the community and asked residents to keep off the event slated for December 31. “Atwoli has not told the community the platform he is using to undertake such a delicate assignment and who assigned him to do so,’’ he said.
