Kitui governor Julius Malombe was Friday forced to leave the burial of former Kitui Mayor Martha Mwangangi after angry mourners objected to his presence at the emotional ceremony at Kiamika village, in Kitui central constituency.
The ceremony was disrupted after angry mourners burst into anti- Malombe slogans when the governor accompanied by his wife and a bevy of mean looking security men made his entry into the home of the deceased.
Police were forced to fire in the air to disperse the rowdy crowd that was baying for Malombe's blood as family members hurriedly moved the body back to house.
The late Mwangangi died last week after a fire engine from the Kitui county government ploughed into a crowd of protesting traders killing her instantly.
