Pressure is mounting on Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi to resign over alleged misappropriation of over Sh3.4 billion in the 2014/15 budget.
The more than 50 —aspiring and sitting—Members of the County Assembly have given the governor seven days to vacate his office or they would force him out. Led by Mutithi ward MCA Njamumo Njinaro, the leaders described the Auditor General’s report as proof of Ndathi’s failure saying the governor cannot be entrusted with leadership of the county in the coming year.
The MCA also urged Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to start investigations against the governor, who he described as “very corrupt”. He said Ndathi ought to be in jail and not in the office, warning that the county may lose more cash if no action is taken against him.
Aspiring County Assembly Member Caroline Wanjiku termed Kirinyaga finance position ailing and warned the county may collapse if no action is taken against the governor and his Cabinet. She demanded the dissolution of the county government and appointment of a caretaker committee until a new governor is elected.
