Top security officials in Northern Kenya have held a high level meeting to probe the rising wave of insecurity that has gripped the border town of Mandera.
The meeting was held amid reports that the dawn attack which claimed the lives of 12 people may have been carried out by local militias and criminal gangs with the aim of destabilizing the county
the details emerged as local leaders have challenged security agencies to track and arrest the perpetrators and financiers of the terrorist elements said to be residing in the town.
As Yussuf Ibrahim reports, the absence of Ethiopian forces in the Gedo region of Somalia bordering Mandera county has further complicated the work of Kenya's security forces giving the Al- Shabaab easy access to the unmanned region.
