Former Safaricom's Chief Executive Officer, Micheal Joseph is the new chairman of the national carrier, Kenya Airways. He replaces ambassador Dennis Awori who took a bow from the national carrier after serving as chair for 11 months .
The major shareholders of the airline, Treasury and KLM which has been a silent partner for most of the turbulent times at KQ as it is commonly referred to announced the changes in line with a promise they made to the airline’s pilots that there would be major changes at the carrier’s management level.
The Kenya Airline Pilots Association (KALPA), had threatened to go on strike if Awori and the airline’s chief executive Mbuvi Ngunze do not resign. The government however managed to get the pilots to defer the strike with the promise that a major management shakeup would happen by the end of October.
