Barely a day after Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua survived impeachment bid where Senate threw out charges against him, he has urged Members of County Assembly to shun divisive politics and work with his administration.
The governor, who had been impeached by MCAs on September 2, retained his post on Wednesday night after the Senate declared that the accusations against him did not meet the threshold for impeachment.
And yesterday, Gachagua expressed optimism that MCAs will give dialogue a chance to iron out the issues facing the county for the interests of residents. “I have no issues with sitting down with MCAs and resolving whatever differences that may be there.
We should sit down and agree,” he said. The governor lashed out at former Mathira MP Ephraim Maina, who he accused of orchestrating his ouster.
The County Assembly had accused Gachagua of gross violation of the Constitution, abuse of office and mismanagement of public funds. The senate said the allegations could not be substantiated.
