President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto have told off Opposition leaders for failing to tackle the squatter problem in the Coast region while they were in government.
Without mentioning names, the two leaders said those in the Opposition were in the Grand Coalition Government with retired President Kibaki but failed to bring development in the region to change the livelihoods of the residents.
Uhuru said his government would resettle the landless and give them title deeds. Speaking in Kilifi, Uhuru asked Kenyans to join the Jubilee Party, saying it aims at uniting Kenyans and to wipe out tribalism.
Water project
The President announced that in collaboration with the African Development Bank, which will donate Sh2 billion, would embark on a major water project in the county to serve all the seven sub-counties to end water scarcity in the area.
He also revealed that the government will start construction of the Mariakani/Bamba road and the Malindi Sala-Gate.
“The government has allocated Sh400 million for the expansion of the Malindi Airport to enable large-bodied aircraft to fly directly from European countries to Malindi to boost the tourism sector in the region, adding that those affected would be compensated accordingly.
Ruto, said the State would give title deeds to the residents whose land had been surveyed in a bid to resolve the historical injustices the local communities experienced.
