There was drama at the Nyeri County Assembly yesterday when MCAs engaged in a fist fight over a motion to impeach Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua. The combat pitted MCAs allied to the Governor against those supporting the bid to kick him out of office.

Two female journalists were also attacked during the afternoon brawl. Chinga MCA Paul Ngiria sustained minor injuries on the head and chest and had his shirt torn to shreds.

He said he was attacked because he is against the impeachment motion. “My attackers are the age of my father. It was an embarrassment,” said Ngiria.

A notice to impeach Gachagua over alleged misappropriation of funds and abuse of office was set to be filed in the afternoon session before the scuffle ensued. Gachagua and MCAs have locked horns after the latter altered the Sh6.4 billion budget and removed allocations to the governor’s office and other departments.
