Maina Former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru has denied that she is planning to enter into an alliance in the race for Nairobi governor’s seat with Water Cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa.

Wanjiru said she was qualified for the seat and would only back another candidate if she is beaten in a free and fair nomination. But speaking to reporters before receiving an award yesterday, Wanjiru criticised Jubilee MPs who are opposed to Wamalwa’s candidature for Nairobi’s top seat.

“It is tribal for some Jubilee MPs to reject Wamalwa as Jubilee’s flag bearer for the Nairobi county governor,” she said. The media reported yesterday that Wanjiru and Wamalwa had showed willingness to forge an alliance during a church service at the latter’s Jesus Is Alive Ministries.

Wanjiru, however, refuted the reports insisting she is determined to go all the way to the ballot. She was among winners of the Africa’s Most Influential Women in Business and Government and Titan, commonly known as CEO global awards. Others who won included businesswoman Esther Passaris and Dr Betty Gikonyo, the CEO of Karen Hospital.
