South Sudan's information minister Michael Makuei says the government in Juba will soon meet to decide on the way forward following a decision by the U.N. Security Council authorizing a 4,000-member regional protection force for the capital, Juba. South Sudan had earlier rejected the deployment of 4,000 additional un peacekeeping troops shortly after the UN Security Council approved a robust new mandate in a vote. The rejection followed the authorisation of a resolution granting expanded powers to peacekeepers, requiring them to use "all necessary means" to protect UN personnel and installations and to take "proactive" measures to protect civilians from threats. the resolution also adds an additional 4,000 soldiers from African nations, bringing the number of peacekeeping troops to around 17,000.
