Attempts by the Law Society of Kenya to mediate an out of court settlement on the contentious retirement age of Deputy Chief Justice Kalpana Rawal and supreme court Judge Philp Tonui have flopped throwing the judiciary into a crisis mode.
In a dispatch to newsrooms, the Judicial Service Commission through its vice chairperson Margaret Kobia turned down LSKs mediation proposal saying the retirement age is a constitutional matter that is not negotiable and that the decision by the JSC is final and not amendable. And as Yussuf Ibrahim reports the latest development will now see both parties battle out their cases at the supreme court.
