The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) secretary general Wilson Sossion has dismissed new rules introduced to fight cheating in exams. He accused Education Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i of not consulting all stakeholders. Sossion claimed the CS had not asked for Knut input before going public with the new rules.
“Knut doesn’t accept the proposed changes until we are briefed properly. The CS must re-think these measures,” said Sossion at the Valley Teachers’ Training College in Bureti Constituency during a graduation ceremony at the weekend.
Last week the CS spelt out several measures that include altering the school term calendar and the administration of national examinations. The CS banned the mid-term breaks in Third Term, visiting days and prayer days. Interestingly, Knut chairman Mudzo Nzili was with the CS when he announced the changes.
