Police have asked individuals with any information that could lead to the arrest of the killers of businessman Jacob Juma to volunteer it to them. This comes as detectives turned to mobile phone service providers to assist them in tracing the last people he talked to before he met his death.
At the same time, police indicated that they want Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula to furnish them with information he holds on the killing of Juma, who was shot dead last Thursday Sources indicate that Juma received a call at around 8.16pm and talked for three minutes and another followed up at 8.20pm and they spoke for close to five minutes.
Efforts are also in place, to trace people that Juma was with in his office, moments before he was killed. Also to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of Juma, efforts are in place to verify whether Juma was abducted, tortured and killed elsewhere before his body was ferried to the crime scene.
Another theory being explored is whether Juma was shot by drive-by gangsters or was forced into the ditch before being shot dead. Already, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Ndegwa Muhoro has indicated that two AK47 spent cartridges were found at the scene.
Boinnet said police expect the Bungoma senator to discern credible facts from ordinary hearsay and thereafter inform the police as soon as possible for appropriate action. Wetang’ula had said he would name killers of Juma during the burial of Saturday, adding that the latter had expressed fears of a plot to assassinate him.
Boinnet said killing of fairly high profile individuals attracts lots of public attention and all manner of speculation but the police make no exceptions in their investigations and will diligently follow the procedures as prescribed in the law.
Similar calls were separately made by Tiaty MP Asman Kamama, who called for patience as the police conduct investigations and warned politicians against making statements aimed at giving themselves political mileage.
He also asked the public to provide the police with information that may assist in investigations, given the varied versions that have arisen with regards to Juma’s killing and subsequently assist in arresting the culprits.
