Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leaders led by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula claim the government has sold Pan African Paper Mills at a “throw -away” price. The leaders faulted the revival of the Webuye-based paper mill saying it was a way of selling it to an investor cheaply.

Wetang’ula said the government was using the revival to win votes in Western region claiming that the government had repeatedly been giving area residents false promises.

Speaking during a Ford Kenya rally at Mayuba Stadium, Sirisia Constituency, Wetang’ula who was accompanied by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Kanduyi legislator Wafula Wamunyinyi and his Kiminini counterpart Chris Wamalwa said the government needs to come clean on the details of the deal to have a “strategic investor” run the factory.

Wamunyinyi claimed that there were plans to sell the company for as low as Sh900 million instead of Sh12 billion. Khalwale said there were certain details that needed to be ironed out before the sale and reopening could go on. He said the sale of the miller needed the input of all leaders in the region not a selected few that were allied to the Jubilee administration.

Wamalwa, said they will not allow the sale of Pan Paper until they were given its full details. ‘‘We want full disclosure of the deal to sell Pan Paper. We will not allow the deal to go through should we not get full disclosure of the details that they agreed on,” he said.
