Nominated Senator Beatrice Elachi has revealed plans to draft a motion seeking to revert the health function to the National government.
Speaking during a women’s empowerment forum in Eldoret at the weekend, Elachi criticised county governors for failing to deliver quality healthcare yet the National government has allocated them funds for the same.
“It is not good for the sector to be devolved when patients sleep on the floor, lack drugs and health providers are discriminated against along tribal lines by governors,” said the senator, referring to last week’s reports that patients Kakamega General Hospital are forced to sleep on cartons.
The Senate Chief Whip said the health sector is critical to the country’s development and governors must treat it as such.
“It’s for the good of the people. Let those who voted for you at least enjoy the benefits of devolution and not suffer because you are too egocentric,” said Elachi.
She also criticised Luhya leaders for dividing the community even as ruled out the possibility of having a president from the Western region in the 2017 polls because “President Uhuru Kenyatta will remain on the top seat”.
