Deputy President William Ruto has challenged Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leaders to form one political party.
He said formation of regional and tribal parties will disintegrate the nation and challenged Cord Principals — Raila Odinga, Moses Wetang’ula and Kalonzo Musyoka to borrow a leaf from Jubilee Party (JP) which is uniting affiliate parties to form one party.
The Deputy President said political parties should compete on policies, programmes and visions geared towards fostering development, stressing Kenyans are interested in development issues and not tribal or regional parties.
Speaking at Gusii Stadium during the consecration of Southern Nyanza Anglican diocese bishop, John Orina, Ruto said President Uhuru Kenyatta wants to unite Kenyans and work with all political leaders regardless of their political party affiliations.
“We are in Kenya by the grace of God. No one chose to be born here. So, we have to unite and work together for the interest of our people,” said Ruto as he urged political leaders to shun tribal politics.
He said the National government has reduced travel allowances for leaders and state officers by 50 per cent this financial year and the proceeeds will be used to ini development projects across the country.
Ruto, was accompanied by his wife, Rachel, Bungoma Governor, Ken Lusaka, Kisii Deputy Governor, Joash Maangi, Nyaribari Chache MP, Richard Tong’i and Anglican Church Head Archbishop Eliud Wabukhala.
