Parliament has been petitioned to kick start the merger of all the stakeholders propagating for the amendment of the Constitution. Major (rtd) Joel Kiprono Rop wants all the draft proposals from Okoa Kenya, Tunza Kenya, Boresha Katiba, Pesa Mashinani,Punguza Mizigo Initiatitive and his merged in to one bill.
In a communication to the House, National assembly Speaker Justin Muturi (pictured)said the petitioner from Kericho county seeks to have the House introduce the amendment bill by parliamentary intuitive.
Muturi committed the petition to the Constitution Implementation Oversight Committee (CIOC) and requested the team to hear the petitioner’s views as well as the other stakeholders.
Leader of majority Aden Duale welcomed the petition saying it is fundamental as it will amend certain provisions of the Constitution.
Tiaty MP Asman Kamama welcomed the petition saying it will go a long way in saving the country billions of shillings as it proposes amendments through parliamentary initiative.
However, Suba MP John Mbadi said Okoa Kenya initiative cannot be merged with any other initiative as the process of amending the constitution has already kicked off.
“As Cord coalition we would only say that it is a good petition, but it is too late, we wish this petition came earlier,” he said.
