Kirinyaga Central MP Joseph Gitari has formally lodged a complaint at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) over what he described as corrupt practice by a senior judge stationed at Kerugoya High Court.
The MP said he decided to file the complaint after the judge allegedly released a drug trafficker from prison under mysterious circumstances.
Speaking at Kerugoya Nyayo Stadium, Gitari alleged that “money changed hands” prior to the release of the drug kingpin.
Gitari’s move comes a day after the JSC directed Justice Philip Tunoi to face a trial tribunal after he was found culpable of gross misconduct.
The legislator maintained that the judge in question should face the JSC probe team as his conduct is questionable.
Gitari said he has written to the Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko protesting over the manner the accused person was released and
demanded investigations into the matter. The TNA legislator accused the judge of corruption. The drug kingpin has been sentenced to eight years in prison on November 11, 2015.
“I have written to JSC asking them to investigate the matter. It is not clear how the judge ordered the release of the prisoner,” he said. Gitari was speaking in Kirinyaga during a function to disburse bursaries to bright students from poor backgrounds.
