More than 200 clerics from Central and Rift Valley regions have launched a 40-day fasting and prayer campaign to arrest disunity and ethnic animosity in the country.

Led by Bishop David Kariuki (pictured) of Calvary Chosen Centre (CCC) in Thika, the preachers will engage in evangelical missions and pray for the country.

Addressing a synod at CCC, Bishop Kariuki said divine intervention is needed to address challenges bedevilling Kenyans including corruption, insecurity and ethnic tensions.

He said it is imperative to set the stage for peace as early as this year ahead of next year’s general election.  “This fasting period is very important to this country because we will be appealing to God to be with us, keep the country safe since we have threats all over, help us slay corruption and shower upon us the spirit of love and togetherness,” he said.

He said the months ahead of 2017 general election are crucial for all faiths to work in harmony to ease ethnic tensions in the country.
