Some leaders in Nakuru have challenged the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to either  redesign or remove the weighbridge in Gilgil.

The leaders claimed the weigh bridge was a nightmare to travellers and transporters. Led by Nakuru County Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairman Njuguna Kamau and Speaker Susan Kihika, the leaders said the bridge was a liability to the county.  “We urge NTSA chairman Lee Kinyanjui, to intervene and help in solving the constant traffic jams caused by this weighbridge,” Kihika said.

She said the journey from Nakuru to Nairobi, which should take two hours, now takes travellers up to 10 hours. “The festive season is here and the situation may worsen because people will be travelling up-country.

NTSA should post their officers in the region to control traffic as a short-term remedy,” she said. She added that, investors will be discouraged to invest in Nakuru due to increased costs occasioned by slow movement.
