Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has now dropped its earlier threat that it would arrest Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leader Raila Odinga after he submitted a statement explaining his claims on the Eurobond.

EACC Chief Executive Halakhe Waqo said Raila has complied with the terms of summons through his lawyer vie a letter dated December 12, providing a summary of his concerns on the Eurobond, but without supportive documents to back his claims.

Waqo said Raila's concerns are based on two Treasury documents namely the Quarterly Economic Budget Review (QEBR) for the fourth quarter of 2014/2015 and Budget Review Outlook Paper (BROP) dated September this year.

“This information has been forwarded to a team of investigators and is being treated as his statement on the matter. In the event that the Commission required more clarification from Raila, we shall request him to do so,” said Waqo in a press briefing at Integrity Centre yesterday.

“The summons were in good faith and summoned should consider it an honour to be found worthy that they have something to assist in investigations or inquiries. Further, the clamour reforms and democratic space was inspired by among other things, non-selective enforcement of the law and fighting impunity,” added Waqo.

Raila has maintained a hardline stance that he would not appear before the EACC saying he has no information other than Government documents and supporting data and reports available on the Treasury and Central Bank of Kenya websites.
