Kisumu MCA Charles Ouko was yesterday sentenced to 18 months in prison or pay Sh2.5 million for impersonating a Kenya Revenue Authority officer and conning a businessman.

Kibera chief magistrate Anne Onginjo found the MCA guilty of obtaining more than Sh3.6 million from the complainant George Obala by falsely pretending that he would sell him  five vehicles which were to be used in 2007 poll campaigns.

Aguko was on April 7, convicted  by trial magistrate Judith Wanjala who is on transfer but he sought more time to pay the complainant the money before he would be sentenced.

When the case came up for mention on Friday to confirm whether he has cleared the money, the court discovered the accused had failed to honour his promise and he was  remanded at Industrial Area prison until yesterday when the court made the verdict.

He is said to have committed the offence between August 28 and November 28, 2006 in Nairobi.
