A Nairobi based activist has lodged a legal complaint against a toilet paper manufacturer company, Red Sun Kenya Limited, based in Thika town.

According to the suite whose documents our correspondents saw, the activist alleges that the company produces tissue paper from recycled raw materials from China that have a high carcinogen rating therefore putting users at risk of developing anal cancer. In a sworn affidavit the activist also alleges that the toiletries are produced in a rusty railway yard putting users to a risk of contracting tetanus.

The suite further alleges that the company has failed to comply with both the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and consumer guidelines and wants its owner arrested and prosecuted. The activist wants the Kenya public officials to declare the product unfit for public use and have the notice published in three national newspapers.

The activist urged the court to compel the company owner Lin Xian Hua to stop operating his company until the court rules the matter. The activist name is withheld because of legal reasons.

The case will be heard next week.
